One Year Ago…
My group decided to reach out and go on a mission. We asked God, “What can we do to that you could show your love through us?” We wanted to get to know our neighbors and have it go outside our community. That was a big idea. The answer was to do a collection for Gramma’s Hugs International and invite our neighborhood to join us.
On Labor Day weekend, we went around and told our neighbors that we were collecting fabric and stuffed animals for orphans abroad. We gave them a flyer that explained, “Jesus wants us to do something to show his love.” Yes, we prayed over what we were doing, and yes, we put in the effort, and yes, we collected great stuff that went to a great cause. That could have been the end of the story, but it’s not.
One Year Later…
Let’s fast forward to Monday morning. I wish you could take you across the street to meet my neighbor that is now a friend. He is just beginning in this idea of faith and dealing with an aggressive cancer. To my surprise, another neighbor was over for a visit. After we caught up on the doctor visits and treatment options for the day, I asked if we could pray. After we said, Amen, the looks on their faces showed the meaning of those moments.
Who knew one year ago where our steps of faith would take us? Only God knew and he is good.
